Site Analysis

Creating something new can only be achieved though analysing and understanding the current. Therefore in order to design a space on our site, we should first study the whole valley. My main concern here is to analyse the dynamic and static spaces and those in-between conditions.

Elements of Architecture: Balcony

With the very beginning of this semester, we started to analyse the architectural elements: Wall, door, window, roof/ceiling, stairs/ramp, corridor and balcony. We were asked to choose one of these elements and study on it specially. Me and my teammates decided to go with balcony. We studied the history of the balcony, tried to understand its purpose and spatial experiences it provides. In one and every example of balcony, from the history to these days, it can be seen it is basically an extension of the ground. We focused on this content of the balcony, and tried to answer the question “Why does it extend?”. We designed a poster to explain this question widely. Here it is.
