We were asked to design a seating unit for the courtyard of our school. We have worked in a group of 4 and produced a model, section drawings and also an axonometric drawing of our proposal.

Studying Spaces

After observing and understanding better the term “space”, I made little changes on my model and tried to create some open, close and transitional spaces with some basic operations such as extending, folding and so on. While working on this, another term is assigned for us to define and apply: “threshold”. I attempted to create a threshold between my two instances. Here are some spaces that I zoomed in and studied on. (PS: Please ignore my workmanship, it’s because it’s a working model. It will be improved later.)

Observing Spatial Conditions

Last week, we have visited the Middle East Technical University in order to observe and study the spatial relations. Here are some photos I took which are helped me a lot through my designing process.
